If your creditors are not acting ethically, you can do something about it. There are laws and regulations regarding their treatment of debtors so it’s important that if you feel your creditors are stepping over the line you deal with creditors appropriately
What To Do:
• Let them know that you are aware of your rights. Sometimes they will push you if they think they can get away with it.
• Report them to local authorities and consumer protection agencies.
The best way to deal with a creditor is honestly and openly but ensure that you are treated with dignity and respect. You don’t need to deal with:
• Illegal threats
• Profane language
• Calls at work that inhibit your work productivity
• Harassing phone calls in heavy numbers or at inconvenient times (like the middle of the night.)
Just as you are held to a standard for paying back your debts, your creditor has responsibilities as well.
